The first step in managing workplace hazards is to identify them. Regular workplace inspections use a checklist to identify hazards not noticed on a day-to-day basis.

The objective of this practical activity is to identify hazards in the hall, monitor OHS standards and ensure that corrective action is taken within an agreed time frame.

The inspection will be conducted by a manager (i.e. your teacher) and an employee (i.e. entertainment students) who understand the area being inspected.

Our inspection will include a wide range of issues such as:

  • housekeeping
  • emergency equipment
  • lighting/sound and vision equipment
  • storage
  • hazardous substances

Each group will examine the following areas:

  1. Sound booth and stairs (front of hall)
  2. Toilets (male, female and disabled toilets)
  3. Stage stairs (x3)
  4. Sound booth on stage
  5. Stage front/behind curtain/wings
  6. Stage Lift
  7. Backstage area
  8. Lighting Room

Visit each of the above areas and complete your Hazard Identification Sheet.

You have 35 minutes to record your findings and complete the task.

To complete your inspection you will need to identify the:

  1. Type of Hazard (e.g.  slip, trip or fall)
  2. Risk Assessment (Risk Assessment Matrix)
  3. Possible Risk Control Strategy – (Risk Elimination  or Control Measures)

Every student must complete their own individual Hazard Inspection Sheet.
